I figure if I am going to entitle my blog "Remember Psalm 34," I should probably start by talking about what this chapter means to me and how I apply it to my life. I will break blogs down into verses so that you aren't completely bored when you get to the end of each one. Honestly speaking, I never read a blog that takes three mouse scrolls to get to the bottom...don't have the attention span for it. With that said, I will try to keep each one short.
To think that I am to extol, praise, worship the Lord at ALL times is very hard for me to grasp, even though I know our God enough to know that He deserves all the time that I have. For some reason, I cannot get myself to devote my life fully to him, and that is where grace comes in to play. Through God's grace we are forgiven of our sins and offered a new start in Him. This is just another reason that we should be praising our God at all times.
"My soul will boast in the Lord." One key word in this phrase to me is IN. This is not saying to go out and brag about you being a Christian and the other people not like the snotty kid used to on the playground because he had the Oreos and you had the Kroger chocolate creme cookies. What it is saying is to let the love you enjoy by knowing Christ to shine so bright through you that others would have to put every effort towards not noticing it. In the same way that it is impossible to avoid hearing someone brag about something they have done, people should be able to look at you and see that you have something they don't, but not in an annoying way...in a desirable way.
I love the way we are called to fellowship in this chapter. David is calling everyone to join him to glorify the Lord together. I truly think God smiles every time he sees His children gathering together in fellowship and enjoying each others company. That is what we were created to do...spend time in unity with each other giving praise to the Creator.
"shine so bright through you that others would have to put every effort towards not noticing it."
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. And, it should be effortless for us -- we should always act in such a way that Christ shines forth without our even thinking about it.
